Good memories of the cars and how the companies like Chrysler really seemed to want you to own their products and how they went out of their way to make you a walking and driving billboard for the company. I wish we could see more of them today. I have some of the original ads hanging on the wall. The only part of the book I would change is the registered trademark statement that is at the end of almost every photo caption. It might save about a pint of ink per book.

Neat and different. Never really seen many books that look at marketing and such with this much depth. Really cool spin on muscle car history!

For the most part was an interesting read, but as I lived through it, there should have been much larger photos of some things and sometimes just the outside of something was shown, instead of all the pages. Just didn't meet my expectations.

Another great book by the author on Mopar history. Lots of great ads from the musclecar era with well researched and written text.

The way it is written really relives my past childhood.

He loved it.The Author Jim Schild has written 24 car books...knows his stuff..and of course has been a builder and driver of the cars he speaks on. That's enough for me to trust all the content in this book has been well researched and written for us to understand and enjoy.I highly recommend.

It is about family, about how you impart wisdom to the next generation, what it means to embrace America while holding on to your culture and tradition, all with lively humor and love. It is about three generations of a Mexican American family living in Southern California looking at their past, facing death, and still trying to make sense of this crazy mixed up world that is both magnificent and crushing.Many memorable novels have characters who leave a lasting impression. The protagonist Big Angel has an immense presence, yet he is willing to admit his frailties. Perhaps it is because he is looking death in the face. No matter, he is a man with a broad range that once you hear his voice and learn his secrets, you will never forget him. All the while, getting to know his family will be the most fun you have ever had without the drama of your own.Big Angel had me when he was looking for signs of his dearly departed mother or his son.“When he was a boy, Mother had taught him that a rainbow was a bridge where angels walked down from heaven. In Spanish, it was an arco iris. This was so much more lovely than English, like the name of a butterfly or hummingbird or daisy. He felt smug about this: go, Spanish! Sunflower: girasol, he thought.”I am deeply in love with the Spanish language, which I don’t speak. If you love the language, and for many other reasons, you are in for a real treat with THE HOUSE OF BROKEN ANGELS.

In his vivid multi-generational tale of a Mexican-American family, Luis Alberto Urrea offers up fallen angels (husbands, fathers, sons, brothers) and caregiving saints (wives, mothers, daughters, sisters). At times, I had trouble remembering the identities of third or even second generation characters, a confusion exacerbated by their multiple nicknames. And, even in context, the meaning of some Spanish expressions eluded me. Despite these gaps, I was drawn into the wild ride of life events and complicated relationships among the de la Cruz kin. Some are common to all extended families, others unique to a culture proud of itself yet shamed by a society that regards them as “less than” their white counterparts. Overall, the book has the zest, orneriness, kindness, rage, and spirit of a wild and crowded fiesta.

I really want just to say “Buy this book now and read it tonight”. Almost everything has been said about this wonderful novel, but let me add this: There are passages in which the language is so wonderful, you just want to cut it out of the page and chew it up. Don’t be discouraged by the death of the patriarch. This book will make you want to live bigger than you’re living right now.

This is a very good novel. The events happen now and take place over a few days, mostly in San Diego and Baja California. A huge Mexican- American family has encounters, comic and sad. You may want to look up a few words printed in Spanish, but only a few.There is food, sexual flirtation, insults, comedy, and a touch of modern references. If you have a stereotype of Mexican-Americans in your head, this will change it. There is enough variety to keep a reader pleasantly off-balance. I will read more of this writer.

“The House of Broken Angels” is a book about a family. A BIG family. The head of the family is Miguel Angel De La Cruz, AKA “Big Angel” AKA “Flaco.” He is a sort of Atlas figure, carrying his family’s whole world on his shoulder, but as the novel opens, that world is slipping from his grasp. Big Angel is dying of cancer, and his days—even his hours—are numbered.The novel is a patchwork of stories, wrapped in a collage of characters, tangled up in a web of relationships. There is a plotline that runs through the entire work, but it is almost unnecessary. The author may have included it simply as a respectful nod to the ancient art he has taken up—and that’s fitting: this is a novel very much about respect for what has come before.There are a lot of characters, and at first, I found it intimidating trying to keep up, but eventually, I just relaxed and let their stories wash over me. Clearly, the author is sympathetic to readers who might be a bit overwhelmed by the chaos. He does a good job of reminding you at intervals who these people are, and also reassures the reader that if you get confused at times, it’s okay: Even the characters themselves don’t always know if the guy that just walked in the door is a brother, cousin, uncle, nephew . . . or a complete stranger hoping to sneak in and snag a free cup of instant coffee in all the confusion.The reader, of course (at least this reader), feels like that stranger, at first. It is the art of this novel that by-and-by, the reader begins to feel like family. It’s a marvelous transformation.Hey, Sis, pass the condensed milk and tell me another story about our Abuelo.

Terrible. Victim blaming. Sent back asap

Just ok. Tedious to work through. Much better books on this topic available. Would not be on my recommendation list for betrayed spouses.

This is one of the few books I have found that truly focuses on the victim of sexual betrayal and not the perpetrator. I would give it 6 or 7 stars if I could. It has been immensely helpful in my healing and recovery.

Excellent book to help the healing process

Gentle reality in dealing with persons who are sexually addicted and their partners who have to come to grips with the sad truth.

I truly wish they put a different cover on this book. I do love all of the journally prompts so will simply cover the shamefilled woman on the cover. Recovery actually brings about much hope and even joy will creep back into your life! So ignore the cover and even the title.....

I've been scouring books for help in my recovery. This is the best book that I have found. Of course, the book ended too early and I would love more helpful direction as I move forward. I was married to a sex addict for 17 years. We divorced. Afterwards, I thought I had forgiven and healed. I felt confident and ready to move on. However, after starting a new relationship several years later found that I have triggers and episodes of reliving deepest fears and hurt. I am at a place ready to and hopeful about fully recovering, so I find this book truthful to experience and very relevant for me. Thank you to the author! Well presented work.

Claudia Black and Cara Tripodi have written one of the best books available for partners of sex addicts. Intimate Treason is a workbook that helps the partner navigate the painful trauma of discovering their loved one's sexual addiction to a place of healing. Along with the hope and support provided, it is full of thought provoking and empowering exercises. Claudia and Cara are insightful and compassionate about this work and their book is a wonderful contribution to the family members of sex addicts AND the clinicians that treat them. As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, I have already recommended it to all the partners I treat and will be using it in the groups I facilitate.

For those who do not/have not followed Rawles on his SurvivalBlog.com web site for any period of time, one of the precepts he espouses is "have a list of lists". The idea is a solid one--you a list of the lists of the things you have (or need) to prepare for bad times. It keeps you organized, since you know what you have, how much you have and where it is, or you know that you need it and have yet to acquire it. Tools For Survival is one of those lists--a list of the tools a family or a group of families would need to have in the event of a long term situation where outside help was not available. (Picture Hurricane Katrina, except help didn't show up for months instead of days.) The book is a comprehensive survey of all areas that would need to be addressed in such a situation.In this book Rawles goes over each major grouping of tools in short form. It isn't meant to be an in depth study of any of the area covered. For example, the archery section is roughly 13 pages long and covers what is known as "traditional archery" (basically, long and recurve bows). He covers very basic information on bows, arrows and how to use them. And here is one of the problems: outside resource materials are relegated to a relatively undifferentiated lump in an appendix. They aren't organized by chapter or subject, but by who suggested them. They would be far more helpful if attached in a paragraph or two at the end of each chapter. especially since chapters in this book can be read individually as needed.In another area, covering hand tools, Rawles makes a mistake that simply has me scratching my head. When saying, "You should have one of these", rather than giving the reader a manufacturer and a model number so we can find it ourselves no matter when we read the book, he relies on the SnipURL service, which is an ephemeral Internet-based URL shortening service. I've just checked over a dozen of the included URLs, and the majority are now defunct. The reader is now in the position of knowing that they need spare 120 VAC duplex outlets (for instance), but not knowing which ones the author suggests or why.These two issues combined they make the book less useful than it should be. For someone like me, who has some skills in every area the book addresses, this isn't an insurmountable problem. But for someone new to preparedness or someone who lacks skills in a given area, these problems will render the book far less useful than it should be. Rawles should address both issues in a future edition.

As a big fan of Mr. Rawles other non-fiction and fiction works, I was disappointed that this latest book did not measure up to his previous standards. Much of the book is copied and pasted articles that readers have submitted to his blog. Whole chapters were mostly comprised of this recycled content. Much of the book simply referenced online resources by way of shortened URLs. One of the reasons I purchased the book was to have a hard copy reference book, but with so much of the important content sitting behind generic URLs, this was not the result. I feel the book could have benefitted from another round of editing, where the blog-reader-submitted content was better incorporated into the author's style and typographic errors found and fixed.The topics of the chapters were good, and did present ideas that I had not considered. One of the unfortunate side effects of mentioning specific gear is that it makes that item exceedingly, and suddenly, very scare. As an example, there is a specific model industrial sewing machine mentioned in one of the articles/chapters. A quick search on auction sites for that particular model returns very few results, and the ones that are shown are outrageously priced. Perhaps not the book's fault directly, but the situation is certainly being affected by the book's wide distribution.While the book did contain some photos, they were generally not very helpful. There were photos of many common items, such as a claw hammer, but some of the more obscure tools mentioned were not pictured. Those would have been much more useful. Many appeared somewhat washed out, likely a result of the printing process and choice of an extremely light weight, non-coated paper. I am a gentle reader, but some of the tissue-paper-thin pages tore. In this case, the quality of the printing and paper does affect long-term usefulness of the book, which is why I have considered it in this review.

If you have any of Rawles' other books this one is almost pointless. There is lot of redundant information and numerous clippings straight from his website. That being said if you do not own any of the other books or ever been to his website then this book could be very useful.

I've read Mr. Rawles' previous writings but this one was slightly disappointing to me. I made notes as I read it, and there are things I intend to investigate further and there are products I intend to purchase as part of my prepping plan, but there are sections of the book where he was clearly laboring to fill the pages with words, more particularly those concerning weapons. It was wise of him to use the input of some trusted bloggers on several subjects. All t hings considered, I found some useful information in this book but it was not up to his prior standards.

This book has a lot of great ideas... whether you are looking to obtain enough material to get you through the end of the world, or we get invaded by aliens... this book has you covered... I personally think the author goes WAY overboard.. for instance, he recommends a variety of weapons, and 5000 rounds for each of them... 5000 rounds for each??? Third world countries have started wars with less weaponry. But still, there are some great ideas here. Taylor the material in this book to your own level of paranoia.

It's a good beginner book but It is heavily reliant on maintaining electric and gas power and factory made tools. I think it would be good for a transition book into the hand and steam and animal powered tools that long term survival and prosperity would require. Getting books and tools to make clothes tools, medicine, weapons and everything you cannot buy in a grid down scenario would be a better way to go. I suggest starting with the book Surviving Off Off grid by Michael Bunker.
